Brownish red powder. It is soluble in water, ethanol, slightly soluble in acetone, almost insoluble in ether. The maximum absorption wavelength (pH 7.3) is 488 nm (E1%1 cm595). The median lethal dose (rat, vein) is 190 mg/kg.
Usage:
Acid-base indicator, pH :3.0 (blue-violet) ~ 5.0 (red). The hydrochloric acid and paper acidity in the gastric juice can be measured. Determination of boric acid, cyanide. Additive for biological media. Biological staining, such as embryonic sectioning, plant mucin, cellulose, elastic tissue, etc.
