It is colorless transparent liquid with ethanol and acetone odour. The taste is bitter. It is miscible with water, ethanol, ether and chloroform, and is insoluble in salt solution. It can form an azeotrope with water (12.3% water) and with a boiling point of 80.37 °C. It’s easy to generate peroxide. The relative density (d204) is 0.78505.The melting point is - 88.5 ° C. The freezing point is -89.5 °C. The boiling point is 82.5 ° C. The refractive index (n20D)is 1.37723. The flash point (closed cup) is 12 ° C.
Usage:
Solvents of creosote, shellac, resin, gum, nitrocellulose. Esterification analysis determines the solvent of the vegetable oil. Determination of barium, calcium, copper, magnesium, nickel, potassium, sodium and strontium. Extraction and separation of rare earth metals. Extraction of alkaloids. Pesticide analysis.
