Physicochemical properties:
White crystals or powder with sulphur dioxide odor. Sensitive to humidity. It is more stable than crystalline sodium sulfite, but it can be oxidized to sodium sulfate for a long time and decomposed into sodium sulfate and sodium sulfide by heating. It can be dissolved in 3.2 parts of water, soluble in glycerin, almost insoluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is alkaline and with about 9. The relative density (d 154)is 2.633. The median lethal dose (rat, vein) is 115 mg/kg.
Usage:
Nitrogen oxide is absorbed in the gas analysis. Determination of formaldehyde, chlorate, bromate, iodate. Reducing agent. Determination of bismuth, magnesium, copper, zinc and phosphorus. Photographic developer.
