Colorless transparent liquid which has a strong acetic acid odor. Sour. It is hygroscopic. The refractive index is extremely high. Soluble in chloroform and ether, slowly dissolved in water to form acetic acid. It reacts with ethanol to form ethyl acetate. The relative density (d154) is 1.080. The melting point is -73 ° C. The boiling point is 139 ° C. The refractive index (n20D) is 1.3904. The flash point is 54 °C. The self-ignition point is 400 °C. Low toxicity, half lethal dose (rat, oral) 1780mg/kg. Combustible.
Usage:
The reagent used for acetylation in the analysis. The moisture in acetic acid, cotton, and starch is measured. The alcohol, aromatic primary amine and secondary amine are tested.
