Physicochemical properties:
Colorless translucent hard crystalline block or powder. There is a strong ammonia smell. Spicy. It is a mixture of ammonium bicarbonate (NH4HCO3) and ammonium carbamate (NH2COONH4). Alkaline reaction. The ammonia and carbon dioxide are decomposed in the air to become opaque ammonium hydrogencarbonate powder, which is completely volatilized at 60 °C. It can be slowly dissolved in 4 parts of water. And it breaks down in hot water. The ammonium carbamate is soluble in ethanol.
Usage:
Drop analysis of lithium, radium and strontium and carbonate synthesis.
