Properties:
Dark green, brown or light black powder. The solubility is 4.0% in water, 1.8% in absolute ethanol, 3.75% in ethylene glycol ether, and 3.0% in ethylene glycol. It is almost insoluble in xylene, its aqueous solution or ethanol solution is red. The maximum absorption wavelength (50% ethanol) is 533 nm. The median lethal dose (rat, vein) is 112 mg/kg.
Usage:
Acid-base indicator, the pH is 6.8 (red) ~ 8.0 (yellow). Alkalinity indicator for water, nitrite and urine. A hydrolysis indicator for fats used in histochemistry. Nissl granule staining of nerve cells. It is used together with Jianna Green for in vitro living body staining. Photometric determination of iodide ions. Preparation of neutral red test paper.
